Welcome to the 2025 Fly in Mackay monthly competition.
SSAA Mackay Branch hold a monthly CF and RF shoot at the SSAA QLD Brightly Shooting Complex.
Centerfire is in 2 x 6month competitions for the year.
- 300m CF Summer series (Jan to Mar, Oct to Dec) and,
- 500m CF Winter series (Apr to Sep)
The CF Series shoot is held on the 3rd Sat morning of each month, and the RF is in on the 4th Sat afternoon each month.

Lovely day in Mackay to shoot Fly... as always.
3 of the top 4 places were very close with only 5 points separating them.
Shane C however stretched the lead out with a clean sweep of the leader board.
Great to see Kev and John back, has been a while! And Great shooting guys to take out 2nd and 3rd places.

Round 1, January.
A day of extreme heat. Impossible by the looks to get consistency... looking at the scores the seesaw effect was in full swing. Up and down the scores went as the condition changed card to card.
Congratulations Chris Parry for mastering the conditions, 1st Place, Highest Card, Smallest Group and most Fly's.
John Mcquire was hot on Chris Ps heals in the extreme heat with just a 4-point deficit. John was shooting the tightest Groups with a Group Score Avg of 7.20, just needed to center them a little better.
Jeff Clements picked up 3rd for the afternoon.

Round 3, March.
200yrd Fly winner, Chris Parry.
Mackay finally managed a break in the weather and Chris P capitalized on the opportunity to advance his lead on the 200yrd Leader board. Chris also grabbed best card score.
John Mc came in a very close second and averaged the best group score.
John Lav 3rd place.
Chris Parry and Jeff Malin tied for most Fly's.
Kath shot the smallest group.

With the 500m target line still not accessible due to the amount of rain we have had. We have added a Bonus round* to the 300M CF Summer Series.
Stunning day in the Mackay region, reasonably light winds that were flicky. But Mr. Mirage was out sunning himself on the range today, so that added a good challenge to a near perfect day.

It was what seemed near perfect conditions in Mackay on Saturday afternoon... so this time we blame the ammo, the tune, the hint of mirage, the nice cool breeze or any other excuse in the little "Fly shooters excuse book". For any score that was not in the 290.** area. 🙂

The wet season seems to of finally finished and we get to shoot 500m CF in Mackay.
With the Fly United at the end of the Month most were testing something in their setup to make sure they were ready.
It was a challenging day, only because of the snake in the 500m Shed!

Winter has started and so had the winter wind... until C card when it just died... which meant all the adjustments for W > B card for a very solid Red Tail was now totally useless. The revised load for the 6.5x47L worked for Shane C, taking a good score of confidence into the State shoot next month.

Windy again it was... is it ever not? Great challenging shoot. Glad to see a good variety of gear and shooters all showing up to challenge themselves and have some fun trying to hit a Fly.
Well done John Mcquire.... great confidence boost as he heads to the Fly State shoot next weekend to defend his State Title.

And they all said "300m is easy"! right up till the breeze is up and the mirage is thick... and the Fly thinks your scope is night club dance floor.
But Peter Albrecht had no such issues. Peter tamed the Fly and the conditions... Great shooting mate.

Round 10
What a great afternoon of Fly we had in Mackay.
A very relaxed shoot it was.
With a brand-new Fly shooter attending, Colin with his fact Brno/ CZ 22lr with 6 power scope.
Colin had never shot out to 200 yrds before, had just seen Rimfire shoot on the Q17 Calander and decided to come along. And with that we all swung into action... we helped try and site the 6 power into 200yrds... just didn't have the range in the turrets, but by the start of A card, the Bruno had been upgraded to another competitors identical Brno/ CZ but with a 6x24 scope on it. With that A card was under way... and Colin shot his first Fly target ever... and what tidy little group it was... Very well-done mate.
To round out the day, Colin got to shoot his E card out of a nice Annie, with a March scope atop of it... all setup for Fly. And again, Colin shot another nice first time Fly shooter group.
With some wicked mirage, and a wind that didn't know which direction it was supposed to come from, with a convincing lead Chris Parry was the Champion for the day. Congratulations Chris on winning in the heat and mirage.
