New to Fly, have started with an Anschutz 54 in a BR stock with a second hand Sightron Slll 45x45. Really like the .1 dot reticle.
Enjoyed my first shoot so much I'm building a 6.5L for 500m but am at a loss for scope choice in the Nightforce range.
Their BR 12-42x56 appeals price-wise but not thrilled with the choice of reticle, anyone using the NP-2DD? Dot size concerns me a bit.
This is a once in a lifetime build so want to get it right, maybe worth spending the extra $1400 and go the Competition 15-55x52 with the CTR-2 dot reticle?
Little opportunity to compare these in real life unfortunately. Living in rural SA, there's not a lot of Fly shooters.
I have found from personal experience it comes down to what your eyes like. Some will say this is the best etc... no good if your eyes struggle to see through it. Each brand has their own glass and coatings they put on the glass. I found I need a brighter glass for my eyes to work the best and see the little holes at 500m. So, I have purchased a scope that allows that.
Also, a fan of having the same scope, if possible, on each rifle, less confusion.
Would be good to try a few different types of glass to see what your eye likes... you are currently running a Sightron with reasonable glass quality. (Is it the ED version 45/45?)
Something with ED glass and in a quality brand is a good starting point.
NOTE: Watch the weight, for LG and RF Class!
A few suggestions for a buy once - cry once choice. (There are other choices within these brands that will also do the job.)
Nightforce: COMPETITION - BLACK - 15-55x52mm - Nightforce Optics
March Scope: D60HV56TM (MOA, Tactical) | MARCH Scopes | DEON Optical Design Corporation
Sightron: Sightron SV 10-50×60 ED Zero Stop | Sightron Australia
(For disclosure, I currently run the Sightron mentioned above on all my rifles, with Target Dot reticle. Have owned the March mentioned above as well with an MTR-2 reticle. And used many NF Comps... Would happily use any 3 of the above.)
